RNF Direct 08/08/2024: Welcome to RNF
Hello, my future friends. Today is a very special day for me, as it's the day that everything I've been working on for the last handful of months can actually begin.
The official start of RNF.
My name is Evan, and I've been making content on YouTube mostly for the last 11 years on and off. I released my first video back when I was 13 in 2013. Needless to say, it wasn't good. That era was mostly filled with me using an old-ass phone or camcorder to record gameplay footage and make cringe-inducing teenager commentary. I dropped that after a couple years. Back in 2018 I started streaming a lot, but I also was going through a lot of hard changes in my life and mentally just couldn't take it anymore after another few years.
But I've always wanted to be a creator of some kind. I think I'd just rather die than give up creating all together so I had to try again. Now that I'm a fully developed person, who's starting to get life figured out I wanted to try and take this content creation thing a bit more seriously. It was always sort of a hobby to me, and that's not a bad thing. In fact, one of the reasons I do this is because I have fun with it, and I love making stuff. There's just a spark inside me that ignites whenever I get a chance to create something, even something as simple as a gameplay video on YouTube. But I think I do need to take it a bit more seriously. One: Because it will encourage me to stick with things longer which I clearly have a bad track record of. And two: Because honestly I don't have a whole lot of videos in my backlog that I could consider good. Hell, part of the reason I gave up on streaming was because I had a bit of a creator breakdown thinking everything I ever made was trash. As much as I love simply making stuff, I want other people to like what I make as well. Or at the very least have something I can enjoy upon a rewatch. And while I'm sure I was overexaggerating and not everything I made was garbage, I was having a hard time finding older stuff that I enjoyed.
The point of this story is that I wanted to continue making stuff, but things needed to be different. I took some time to think about it. A little over a year, and I think I figured out how I want to proceed with my content. So that's what I hope to put out there today. I don't really expect anyone to read this when it comes out, but I'm kinda hoping a few years down the line this will be fun to look back on. I'm hoping writing this long spiel will encourage me to keep this current version of my content going for a long long time and this little blog post will be a nice look at our humble beginnings. So allow me to give you all a proper introduction to some of the things you can expect and the future of my content.
Welcome to RNF!
RNF Productions is sort of the umbrella term I'm using for everything I make. If you're wondering RNF was what a lot of my chatters would call me when I streamed a lot because my username at the time was Random Nintendo Fun. So fun fact for you there, that no one asked for.
Currently, the plan is to split up content mainly between 6 YouTube channels. I know that's a lot. Like... maybe too much. Most YouTubers I feel have, like, 3 max. Usually a main, a secondary, and a clips channel in my experience. And we got all that as well plus 3 more. Each with its own content so hopefully you'll find something you like. But that's where this website/blog comes into play. RNF Central is just what it sounds like. A collection of everything I make. Links to the different YouTube videos, written posts, and even original content made just for the site. But if you're curious to check out other things, or just want an easier way to find what you're interested in, then this website will be here. Plus, I can't lie, it is a little self-indulgent. I think it's just nice to have a place where I can visibly see everything I put work into. Speaking of which, perhaps it's time to talk about that. Like I said we have the 6 main YouTube channels, which is where the vast majority of my stuff will be. So let's talk about each one and what to expect from them. If you want any of the links to them you can find them all on the Important Links tab. If you're somehow reading this when it comes out the page may not be available yet. I still need to set it up. But if you're from the future it should be there. 👍
RNF Evan is the main one. Here you'll find scripted videos about different media that interest me. Anything from sitcoms to YouTube stuff. I have plans for many kinds of videos that I think will be fun. There should be a lot of variety here. I'm not entirely sure when the channel will launch, but as of right now, I have plans to launch it with 3 videos. One covers a That's So Raven episode, another about the YouTube movie/series Riley Rewind, and a third about the manga Princess Ai. Written by Courtney Love of all people. 3 very different videos about 3 very different pieces of media. But I think they'll all be fun. And that should give you a pretty good understanding of what this channel is all about. From there we'll jump back and forth between different things. Though, I will probably see what audiences respond to the most and/or what I have the most fun making and may put more focus on specific things. We'll see. It's gonna be a while before we get to that though. Despite being the main channel the uploads here are going to be sporadic and I want to give myself as much time as possible to make these 3 videos good. Hopefully, when we do begin this channel we can get a new video every month or two. I have a lot of fun ideas that I'm excited to make into videos, and I hope it's something you all look forward to.
The second channel is RNF Games. Now while RNF Evan may have a focus on all sorts of media, video games have always been my preference. In fact, that's pretty much been the one consistent thing in my content over the last decade. I started out making gaming videos. I mean recall what RNF originally stood for. I know gaming is a saturated market on YouTube and online in general, but man...I really don't care. I just want to share my passion and love for this medium in a lot of different ways. And that's where the Games channel comes into play. Here you can expect the basic stuff. Let's plays and reviews. The main show on the channel will be called, shockingly, RNF Games. That'll be the Let's Play show. If you've seen the recent videos I uploaded where I play Super Mario Wonder or Shovel Knight it'll be like those except more edited. I'm going to actively work to showcase a variety of games. From the widely known classics to obscure indies. Forgotten retro games and the newest triple-As. Just pretty much anything I find interesting and fun to share. Variety will be the name of the game here. Though I will admit, seeing as how Nintendo is my bread and butter, there will probably be slightly more of that. But even then I want to play a lot of kinds of Nintendo games. For example, some of the first videos we'll upload to the channel will include Mario, but also Another Code Recollection. So there's still a wide range there. My goal with the show is just to have fun and hopefully introduce you guys to a lot of interesting games. Whether good or bad, old or new. Every game has a story and a journey to take you on and I want to document my experiences with them. RNF Games won't be the only show on the channel though. There will be a couple of other video game related shows on there as well. RNF Games is the main one though and will be updated the most frequently. With my current plans to upload it on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. While Wednesday will be saved for the other shows. Not every Wednesday will have something, but when I do have something prepared you know when it'll be. Right now I have two shows planned. Ultimate Mario Party is a retooling of my old Mario Party Series that I did on Random Nintendo Fun. Originally it was a Halloween special where I played through spooky themed boards. Later I started playing through whatever boards I felt like. Sometimes with an extra challenge added. I love Mario Party, and with Jamboree coming out soon I'm really excited to bring back this idea. This will just be a simple series where I play through games of the different Mario Parties in long form videos. I'm thinking it'll have medium to high levels of editing depending on the episode. I'm thinking this series will most likely be monthly. The third big show on the Games channel is currently titled VG Quests. However, I am most likely going to change that name to avoid sounding to similar to Gamechamp3000's VG Myths series. Though, it is one of the shows that inspired VG Quests. VG Quests is just a show featuring challenge runs in various games. Unlike the other two this one will be entirely scripted. It will be pretty similar to other challenge run videos you've seen on YouTube. Just it's my take on them. Currently, there's no set schedule for this show. It'll just happen when it happens. But I am working on a few right now. Kirby 64 without Copy Abilities, Super Mario 64 pacifist challenge, and Pokémon Sword and Shield with only gift Pokémon. And a load of others planned out and written down in a list. This may be the one that I'm most excited for of the three. Though don't take that to mean I'm not super pumped for the other ones. Either way, I want to make sure these VG Quests videos are the best they can be. Right now I have almost all the footage captured for the Kirby video and am about halfway through the Mario 64 one. Pokémon is still a bit away. So Kirby will most definitely be the first episode out. I hope you guys check it out. Along with all the other great content coming to this channel. I have a lot of fun stuff planned and already recorded and I can not wait to begin getting it out. As I said earlier I love me some video games, and I can't wait to partake in some amazing journeys with you all.
While we're on the topic of video games I might as well mention the second channel dedicated to this medium. Though it has a specific focus on one particular franchise. My favorite of them all in fact. Pokémon. RNF Pokémon Quests is a very simple channel. Unedited long videos of me playing various Pokémon games while I talk, share life stories and just have some fun with my favorite games. I'm doing all sorts of things on the channel. Ranging from normal gameplay, challenge runs, and shiny hunting. The show is already started and I try to update it frequently. It's honestly something more for me, but I do my best to make it entertaining for others to watch. I view the whole Pokémon series as one big continuous journey. Thanks to how all the games interact with each other. I've been playing these games since Diamond and Pearl came out and I recently just had the urge to begin saving the memories of these adventures in some way. And so this show is almost like a vlog of me going through the various regions of the Poké-world. Again it's simple, and mostly for me, but I do hope you guys have some fun with it. Currently, we have 69 (nice) episodes up. With loads more on the way. In those 69 episodes we've done a lot of shiny hunting, journeyed through the land of Kitakami in the Scarlet and Violet DLC, did a Rock type only run in Sword and Shield and started a team with the goal of collecting as many ribbons as possible. Along with some other fun stuff adventures too. I have many episodes on the back burner too. Including my first playthrough of the second Scarlet and Violet DLC and a Johto only team in BDSP. I love doing this series. It gives me a vessel to spew my love for Pokémon constantly, and gave me a whole new way to enjoy a series I've always loved. Pokémon has just always been a very important series to me. I don't think I'd be who I am without it. Doing this series has been a blast. I'd appreciate it if you guys wanted to check it out and look forward to many Pokémon Quests to come.
Our fourth channel is pretty typical for a YouTuber to have. The VODs channel. RNF Live and Unedited. I honestly don't plan to stream much. But when I do (whether it be on Twitch, YouTube or TikTok) the archives will be there. On top of that though I have a selection of other unedited videos there. Sort of like Pokémon Quests (hell, I originally started posting that series to the Live and Unedited channel), but with different games. Right now my first playthrough of Super Mario Wonder and the beginning of a Shovel Knight playthrough where I get every achievement is up on there. These types of series will be somewhat frequent, whenever I have a good idea that I think would work with that format. For now though, we're mostly just rolling with those 2 series and one other one that'll be starting soon. We'll talk about that later though. But that's that channel summed up. Like I said when I do stream I'll probably do a mix between Twitch, YouTube, and (if I ever get permission) TikTok. You'll be able to find the Twitch and TikTok links in the Important Links tab. As for YouTube, the channel I stream on will depend on what I'm doing. But since I'm usually going to be playing games they'll mostly be on the Games channel. Again though, don't expect streams often. Part of the reason I quit Random Nintendo Fun was cause I was not cut out for live streaming being the only form of content I do. I don't know I just get super anxious knowing I'm live and a lot of people are watching me. Some sort of stage anxiety that I don't get when I'm just recording videos alone. It was hurting me and the content. It's something I do want to try and overcome though. So maybe streams will become more frequent as I get better at it. Just don't expect them too much at the start.
Channel #5 is RNF Treasure Trove. This one is self-explanatory. It's just a place for all the content that doesn't fit on any other channel. I'm talking things like tier lists and food videos. Literally, just a place to go if you're wanting more stuff from me. It won't be updated frequently. Just whenever I have a fun idea that, again, won't fit on the others.
And lastly, we have another pretty standard channel for a YouTuber to have. RNF Clips. It's a clips channel. Just featuring fun moments from the other 5 in different forms. Shorts and compilations mostly. Sometimes there'll even be video compilations featuring full videos that all share a theme. But yeah, it's pretty simple stuff. I may also start posting my TikToks here, but aside from that it's pretty much what you'd expect from the channel.
And there we have the 6 channels that most of my content will be featured on. Of course I have other avenues of releasing stuff. As mentioned earlier I have TikTok and Twitch. And I also plan to release some more written posts on this blog. As well as trying my hand at fiction writing. But for now I'm mostly going to focus on my YouTube. I know it seems I'm putting too much on my plate, and that will probably stretch me thin. And you're right. It would probably be better if I just focused on one thing. But I don't want to. This just seems more fun to me. Of course, I'll try my best to give everything I want to do equal focus, but some things could likely get put on the back burner or other projects could be negatively affected by my decisions. I'm gonna try my best though, and hey, if things get tough I can always readjust and redirect my focus. For now, though I hope you find something you're interested in and are looking forward to it. I guess that just leaves the question...When will all this content come out?
Well RNF Pokémon Quests is already out and I'm planning to post there as much as possible in the next couple of months. I'm currently behind on uploads. As in I've recorded a lot more than is currently out. So my big goal is to get the uploads caught up closer to real time before the next Pokémon game Legends ZA comes out. Over on Live and Unedited, you can also get some content already. My entire Mario Wonder playthrough is out, along with the first 2 episodes of Shovel Knight. So if you're looking for some simpler content from me those two channels have you covered. What about the other 4? Well, I have plans for 2 of them to start on what I'm dubbing as RNF Day. RNF Day will be what I consider our big launch day. I am currently working on a huge batch of content that will drop across the various channels and this blog. That day will include the first video for Clips (that isn't a TikTok reupload) and Treasure Trove. RNF Evan may be ready to launch by then, but no promises. I really want to launch that channel with those 3 videos together and I don't have faith I'll have them all ready by RNF Day.
As for RNF Games, I'm hoping to launch that channel with its main show a lot sooner. I don't have an exact date, but no later than September 2nd. It will most likely launch this month. The big thing holding me back at this current moment is a mix of procrastination and being busy from my normal 9 to 5. However, I hope VG Quests and Ultimate Mario Party will launch on RNF Day.
Ok Ok. We talked a bit already about RNF Day. So when is it and when will it be?
RNF Day will happen on October 9th. My 25th birthday. I honestly didn't fully intend for that. Honestly, I was just looking for a Wednesday (because that's when VG Quests and Ultimate Mario Party episodes will launch on RNF Games) in late September/Early October to do it and my birthday just so happened to fall into that category. So I said why not. Why not just be a bit pretentious? I mean the opportunity was right there. So what can you expect on that day?
As stated earlier you'll see:
* Ranking Every Danganronpa Character I Could Beat in a Fight (The First Treasure Trove Video)
* The First Clips Video
* Episode 1 of VG Quests (RNF Games) (Series will be renamed later)
* Episode 1 of Ultimate Mario Party (RNF Games)
But there's more:
* Episode 11 of RNF Plays Super Mario Wonder (Live and Unedited)
* Episode 3 of Shovel Knight-All Feats Quest (Live and Unedited)
* 10 Episodes of RNF Pokémon Quests
And maybe the first 3 RNF Evan videos, but that's a ginormous MAYBE. With or without it though we have a load of fun stuff prepared for the day. I've been slowly chipping away at this stuff over the last few months and I am ecstatic to get it to you guys.
So far we covered the 6 YouTube channels that will hold the majority of my content, but we haven't talked much about this blog. Like I said the blog is mostly just a catalogue of everything I make. But I want to put as much into it still as I possibly can. So, as I said earlier, we'll have written posts exclusive to the blog. On top of that, I want to make it as convenient as possible to find things. So at some point, I will be implementing a tab that has a list of all the series I make along with a link to get to an episode list. Of course, if you want to get more specific Blogger implements tags for a reason. Eventually, I'd like to also have a weekly update segment on the Home Page (which is currently just a little bit of text introducing the blog). The weekly segment will hopefully include a schedule of upcoming videos and posts for the next week. As well as some other stuff. I don't have all the details ironed out just yet, but this is just the start of making this blog a little bigger than just an archive.
As for the original content I mentioned it's not going to be anything too crazy. I have some ideas for smaller projects I want to do. Just a couple one off ideas. For example little short articles about some songs I like. That's the general idea of what the blog originals will be like. However, I do have one consistent series that will be updated over time. Introducing RNF Anime Quests! I've been an anime fan for a pretty long time, but I've realized I haven't really put much time into watching anime recently. This show is sort of my attempt to counteract that and force me to watch more anime. I mean I'm missing so many modern and old school classics. Some shows I've wanted to watch for literal years. Others, like Frieren, are newer and I have friends and family yelling at me about how I should drop everything and watch what they say is "peak fiction." Anyway point it I want to watch more anime, and rewatch some of my favorites. Anime Quests will be a show documenting that journey. I will be reviewing every anime I watch, and on top of that ranking them compared to one another to see if I can find my favorite anime of all time. Keep in mind with the rankings it'll be totally based on just my personal tastes and preferences and not at all objective. Currently, I am writing the rough draft for the first episode, which will be Kotaro Lives Alone. After I finish the review I have to watch Frieren. I don't have a choice. I am being held at gunpoint. The first episode will be posted within the next couple of weeks. Keep your eye on those weekly schedules.
Well as we wrap up here I have just a few more things I want to add. Firstly, I'd like to introduce you all to Emily. You can consider Emily our mascot of sorts.
This is a test model I made using the app Custom Cast. I eventually hope to get more proper drawings of her made, but for a while you'll probably see her only in model form. Again though this one is just one of the few test ones I made. Emily will be the face of many RNF productions. Sometimes as her own character, but also sometimes as a representation of me when I don't feel like showing my face. Sometimes I may even use her as a Vtuber model when I stream. The point is you'll see her a lot. Maybe even in some of that fiction writing, I said I wanted to do. *Hint Hint*
And one last thing. It will still be a bit before we start getting some of this content out. Even something like RNF Games will still take a couple weeks before I'm ready to get it out. But that doesn't mean I'm just going to leave things dry for a bit. Starting August 10th on RNF Live and Unedited we'll be starting a new series. A daily thing to hold us over until the bigger things are ready. So until that day comes I hope you all enjoy Danganronpa LIVe or Die. LIVe or Die is a Danganronpa fan game created by a duo called Aru and Raven. As you may have figured out from my earlier desire to beat the shit out its characters I'm a big Danganronpa fan. I've played through every game multiple times (even UDG), I love the anime, and I hope to read the novels at some time. The point is if Danganronpa was a pool, I'd be wading on the deep side. One of the best things about playing Danganronpa for the first time is navigating all the unexpected twists and turns. All the surprising deaths and shocking events. The basic premise is a breeding ground for really intense drama and intrigue. I love it. It's addicting. Of course, there are only 3 main games. There's only so much content within the franchise. Of course, there's a lot of similar games, but there's something special about Danganronpa and it's killing games. So if I want to relive that as much as possible fan games are a good place to turn. I don't have much experience with Danganronpa fangames though so join me as we navigate these familiar yet somewhat trials. I also love watching blind playthroughs of the main games and seeing people's guesses and theories. I kinda wanted to do something similar. So I hope you all look forward to the playthrough.
RNF Plays Danganronpa: LIVe or Die begins August 10th at 2 PM EST and will be updated every day until the end of the game at that time as well.
And well....I think that's it. Again I don't really expect anyone to read this, but it's nice to have my thoughts collected and to talk a bit about my plans. Like I said, I think in the future this will be a nice thing to look back on. Assuming I lock in and continue this line of content for years to come. Otherwise, this post will probably actually end up being very sad.
With that said if you did read this, whether near its release or in the distant future, then thank you. I appreciate you and I'm very excited to see where this plan for my content will take us in the future. I'll see you all later hopefully. We still have some time before the big content arrives, but Danganronpa LIVe or Die will hopefully keep us occupied. Meanwhile, I'm going to continue building and adding to this blog. See ya guys later.
Buh-Bye!
Change Log:
8/9/24: Changed the thumbnail to one using the new RNF logo.
For comparison, here's the old one.
9/12/24: Fixed a typo. When talking about Emily I said "you'll probably see you only in model form" and I fixed it by switching "you" to "she"
1/8/25: Added the production code at the start.
